Government food basket program

The Brazilian federal government provides distribution of various items through its social programs. A great example is Bolsa Família, which has helped thousands of people to gain more dignity. Many families rely on government programs as their only safe and secure income. This is because these individuals have no other source of income or supplementary income.

Several new programs have recently become operational, and many other former programs have been maintained or modified in an effort to provide equitable assistance to all in need. The most famous programs are:

Bolsa Família: an extra income, based on school attendance and good service to school-age children. In case of missing classes or late vaccines, the program can be cut and the benefit cancelled.

Emergency aid: much talked about in recent years, it was provided to the population at the time of the coronavirus pandemic, helping unemployed people and single mothers who had no other source of income.

BPC (continued provision benefit): for people in poverty who have a physical or mental disability. I also pay for people who are no longer able to perform work functions and are not yet old enough to retire through the INSS.

Child Labor Eradication Program: aimed at families that have children and adolescents up to 16 years of age and who work to help with household income.

Crop Guarantee: paid to rural workers and farmers in case of crop loss due to natural reasons, such as drought, drought and excessive rainfall.

Closed season insurance: artisanal fishermen receive this benefit during fish breeding seasons, when fishing is prohibited. They also receive in case of prevention of certain species.

The value of the basic food basket in Brazil

The high prices of all items also affected the basic food basket. According to Diese, the value of the entire national territory has increased. Of the 17 surveyed capitals, 16 have relatively higher prices. In Florianópolis, its price reached a historic record, with a basic basket costing 700.69 reais.

The second most expensive in Brazil is a basic basket in São Paulo at R$ 693.79. In Porto Alegre, the high made the price of the basket rise to 691.08 reais and in Rio de Janeiro, to 673.85 reais. Even with significant growth in almost all Brazilian capitals, the highest value registered did not reach R$ 700.00. Until then, the most expensive basic baskets are in São Paulo.
